Fair Work First Statement

Linlithgow Heritage Trust is committed to the Scottish Government’s Fair Work First Policy. As of 2024, Linlithgow Museum is a committed Real Living Wage Employer (Scotland) recognising the responsibility to the rewards and conditions of employment as well as the wellbeing of our staff. Fair Work First is central to achieving the Scottish Government’s priority for sustainable and inclusive growth, especially while Scotland transitions out of the Covid-19 pandemic and into a period of economic recovery and renewal.

Fair Work is more important than ever, and Linlithgow Heritage Trust will continue to build on the best practices around. We remain committed to improving the work/life balance of all our dedicated staff and to ensure we keep fair work practices at the heart of everything we do.

Linlithgow Heritage Trust is committed to advancing the Fair Work First Policy through:

  • Effective Voice - providing the channels for effective employee engagement and holding regular 1-to-1 meetings between staff, line-managers, and the museum Chairman.

  • Opportunity - The museum undertakes a fair and transparent recruitment process with all job opportunities advertised externally and we will consider hybrid working approaches for some or all staff. The museum invests in training for all its staff, focusing on organisational priorities and individual personal development.

  • Security - Linlithgow Heritage Trust is committed to paying the Real Living Wage, providing fair contracts and not using inappropriate zero-hour contracts.

  • Fulfilment - The museum will continue to work and develop ways to use museum staff’s skills and take responsibility for their work. We will achieve this with roles that have clear responsibilities and objectives. Development plans will be agreed. The museum recognises good work through discussion, affirmation and good line management relations which will include joint and solution-based problem solving.

  • Respect - All museum staff are entitled to be treated with respect and dignity at work. They have a personal responsibility for ensuring that they treat others the way in which they would expect to be treated. The museum also recognises dignity at work to mean being free to work without experiencing bullying, harassment, discrimination or victimisation. We will also recognise the importance of health, dignity and wellbeing including work/life balance.
