Learning
We offer an opportunity for local primary schools and other groups to get their hands on history through our engaging learning programme.
During a visit to the museum, our enthusiastic team of education volunteers can offer:
Educational quizzes - a fun way to learn about Linlithgow’s history through museum artefacts
An interactive session on the history and use of glass bottles (bookings only) - proven popular with the kids!
An opportunity to touch objects from the past through a variety of object handling boxes
We have also hosted school visits on subjects such as The Linlithgow Marches and Life on Linlithgow High Street, that may be of interest.

When can we visit?
Linlithgow Museum is happy to open for school visits from Monday to Thursday, but booking is essential so that we can arrange for our team of volunteers to be available.
If you would like to arrange a visit, please email us here at Linlithgow Museum to discuss your requirements. You can download a copy of our School Booking Form to help plan your visit.
It is the responsibility of teachers and group leaders to complete a risk assessment before any visit. Use our risk assessment information and hazard identification sheet to help create your own risk assessments.
In development
We are currently refreshing our Learning Programme to create an exciting and educational experience for schools and other groups. This will include expanding our object handling box selection to cover new topics such as Life on Linlithgow High Street, Life on the Loch (Iron Age Linlithgow), the life of Mary, Queen of Scots, and Sir Charles Wyville Thomson, lead scientist on the Challenger Expedition that laid the groundwork for modern-day Oceanography. These will be used to help deliver workshops during museum visits and outreach sessions.
They will also help form the basis on online learning resources for home schooling students that will be available through our website.

Heritage Hero Explorer Award
We will also be offering a Heritage Hero Explorer Award packaging in partnership with Archaeology Scotland. The Heritage Hero Awards are a wider achievement award, designed exclusively for history, heritage and archaeology projects. The Awards are free and are designed to be accessible to all, regardless of age, academic ability, or background.
