About Us

Linlithgow Museum is proudly run by the Linlithgow Heritage Trust, a charitable voluntary organisation, dedicated to celebrating and preserving the rich heritage of Linlithgow and its surrounding area. At the heart of our museum is a passionate team of volunteers, whose dedication and commitment are vital in keeping our doors open and our stories alive.

Our mission is to protect, preserve, and share the objects, memories, and histories that make Linlithgow unique. From everyday items to rare artefacts, we work to safeguard the tangible and intangible heritage of our town for future generations.

Through engaging displays, personal stories, and community-led events, we aim to tell the story of Linlithgow’s people — past and present — and celebrate the town’s enduring identity. Whether you are a local resident or a curious visitor, the museum offers a welcoming space to explore Linlithgow's rich and fascinating past.

Community Space

Our museum is more than just a place to explore the past – it is a vibrant community hub at the heart of Linlithgow.  Our dedicated community space hosts a changing programme of temporary exhibitions, hands-on activities and engaging talks, offering something for all ages and interests.  It is a space designed to bring people together through shared stories, creativity, and learning.

We are proud to support our wider community by making the space available to local charities, community groups, and organisations for their own events, a celebration of specific anniversaries or to use our exhibition cases to host a display or tell a story.  We welcome enquiries about reserving the space.

Community Engagement

The museum also offers tailored experiences for school groups, community groups and reminiscence sessions, as well as group visits looking to discover more about Linlithgow’s unique heritage in a friendly and accessible setting.

While the museum is officially open on a Friday and Saturday (10am-4pm) and Sunday (1pm-4pm), we are happy to open on other days of the week for pre-arranged visits by schools, large groups, or for reminiscence sessions.  Please contact us to arrange a visit. To arrange a school visit, please see our Learning page for more information.

Linlithgow’s Heritage Hub

We are delighted to be part of Linlithgow’s Heritage Hub; several heritage related services - Linlithgow Library, the Local History Library, the West Lothian Family History Society and the Linlithgow Museum - are now located within a single building which has significant historical interest within the town of Linlithgow.
